As we know the climate of the Everest Trekking Region is not always better while you want to start your trek by flying to Lukla. So most of the trekkers stuck in Kathmandu due to the bad weather get to cancel their Lukla flight from time to time. So to save time some trekkers take the option to start their trek from Phaplu by driving from Kathmandu to the Everest region trek. Driving from Kathmandu to Phaplu is one of the best options when we get our flight to Lukla to get delayed or postponed. However, the condition of the road is bad: dusty and bumpy. The distance from Kathmandu To Phaplu is 271 km. The time duration to reach from Kathmandu To Phaplu is 8hr to 9hr. And from Phaplu it will take 3 Days to Reach the Phakding. After Phakding you will reach Khari Khola Overnight and the next day you will reach to Surke Overnight and 3rd day you will be at Phakding. Actually, hiring a jeep for Phaplu from Kathmandu is more expensive than buying a flight ticket to Lukla. We can share the same jeep too in a group of 8 people. In this case, we pay USD 25 per person for Phaplu for jeep drive.
Everest region trek
During summer, the road is closed due to landslides and mud. This road from Kathmandu to Phaplu works from Sept- to February. There is no local and tourist bus running from Kathmandu to Phaplu. Phaplu is a gateway to the lower Solu region/ Everest region.
