 Is Manaslu Circuit Trekking challenging?

Manaslu Circuit Trekking Blogmanaslu trek region

Yes, the Manaslu Circuit is challenging and strenuous. Those who have a strong level of stamina and confidence can accomplish Manaslu Circuit Trekking. For this, you need to practice some other easy and moderate trekking, hiking, regular exercises, and aerobics. It is also suggested to get your health checked up properly before venturing on the trail and carry the right medicine with you. After Dharmasala, the trail gets challenging till we cross Larkya La Pass (5125). Another thing that makes your Manaslu Circuit Trekking challenging is that we do not get the accommodation and food we want on the trail. Dharmasala where we find few lodges these days, otherwise, we have to spend the night in a single lodge. Even the Dharmasala is not a lodge that is a traditional travelers’ inn. So, we recommend the trekkers who are making their Manaslu Circuit have their sleeping bags.

Best Time to Trek

Among four seasons: Autumn, Winter, Rainy, and Spring, we have the two best seasons to make our Manaslu Circuit Trek. These are Spring and Autumn. Autumn is the best season to make any kind of trip to Nepal, however, Spring has become an equally fascinating season to make a trip to Nepal and the Manaslu region too. So, an equal number of trekkers make their Manaslu Circuit during Spring too. Here, you go either with Spring or Autumn for your Manaslu Circuit Trek. Spring is a bit hotter and sometimes we receive rain too. But, Autumn is mild and perfect.

Accommodation and Food

Do not expect luxury accommodation during your Manaslu Circuit Trek. We do not find such luxury hotels on the trail. We get normal lodges and guesthouses owned by the locals. The toilets and bathrooms are shared and outside. But, the rooms and beds are neat and clean. The rooms are expected to be shared. One night accommodation costs between USD 10-15.

The common food items on the Manaslu Circuit Trail are bread, noodles, Dal Bhat, dumplings, Thukpa, etc. One item of food costs 4-8 US dollars. During peak seasons like Autumn and Spring, you may have to wait some more time to get your ordered item of food.

Getting to the Trailhead and Away

Manaslu Circuit Trekking BlogManaslu trek route

To get to the trailhead of Manaslu Circuit Trekking, we need to take a long drive of 7-8 hours from Kathmandu to Sotikhola via Arughat. From Kathmandu to Dhading Besi is a comfortable drive with a smooth road but as the road gets to the remote area, it turns to be like a remote country road. So, we cannot do our Manaslu Circuit Trekking during the summer. The roads are damaged by landslides and rain. This road is, recently, under concretization and hopefully, we can do our Manaslu Circuit Trekking in Summer and Spring too soon. We do not get any luxury tourist buses to go to Sotikhola. We either have to go by public bus or private jeep. The majority of the trekkers go by local bus since the private cost is very high.

Permits

We are required to obtain a special area trekking permit for Manaslu Circuit Trekking since it is a restricted area trekking in Nepal. You can obtain it from the Nepal Tourism Board located at Bhrukitimandap in Kathmandu. Or, if you are booking your Manaslu Circuit Trekking via a trekking company in Kathmandu, they will arrange it for you. You just need to provide them with a copy of the passport for the details.

Final Say

The wilderness and remoteness and the adventure lovers find Manaslu Circuit Trekking astonishing. The less crowded and virgin trails into the core wilderness will satisfy us with a completely new taste of adventure trekking in the Manaslu region of Nepal. So, venture on the trail with full preparation and confidence and enjoy your Manaslu Circuit Trekking in any way you like.
