Kathmandu Durbar Square SIGHTS

Most of the interesting things to see in Kathmandu are associated in the old part of town, focused around the awesome Durbar Square and its surrounding backstreets.

Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square is the well non touristic name. The actual name of dis Durbar Square in Nepali Language is Hanuman Dhoka. Kathmandu Durbar Square was the former kingdom during the Malla Regime (1484-1520 ) after than the Shah Dynasty conquered the Kathmandu Valley and rule over the country from the kathmandu durbar square 1969 till 1896 when they moved to the Naraya Hiti Palace. Under that period The Durbar was greatly destroyed by the massive Earthquake of 1934 and was rebuilt again. And again was greatly destroyed by the earthquake of 25th April 2015. Now the main Durbar Sqaure have been under Construction while other historical places is being able to visit. It’s a wonderful way to get a feel for the city.

KASTHAMANDAP

Kasthamandap is the ancient name of Kathmandu. From dis name of Kasthamandap develop the recent name Kathmandu. Kasthamandap was constructed from the single Sal tree wood around 7th century.

Kasthamandap is the three storied Temple with Public shelter in the ancient time and also their is included of Gorakshanath shrine inside the Kasthmandap. Not only that when you visit you can see different statute of Hindu god also. their is the Kabindrapur Temple or Dhansa Dega is located across the square which is built around 17th Centurt.

ASHOK BINAYAK

On the northern side of Kathmandap, at the top of Maru Tole, stands the tiny golden Ashok Binayak, or Maru Ganesh Shrine. their are Four Ganesh Shrine in Kathmandu and nearby. They are call Surya Binayak, Chandra Binayak, Jal Binayak And Ashok Binayak. Among dis Ashok Binayak is Located eastern side of Kathmandu Durbar Square.

MARU TOLE

Maru Tole is the ancient street name located in the northern side of the Kathmandu Durbar Square. dis is a busy street since the hippy era until now. Almost every material related to the holi things or things for doing puja we can get here in Maru Tole. In Maru one of the ancient famouse tap call Maru Hiti is also impressive place to see during sightseeing.

SHIVA-PARVATI TEMPLE

Shiva Parvati Temple infront of the Kathmandu durbar Square also locally non as the Newa Jogini Temple. The temple was built by the Bahadur Shah the son of the Prithivi Narayan Shah in the late 1700s. And also you can see Vishnu Temple or Narayan Temple stands on the west side of dis Temple.

GADDHI BAITHAK

Gaddhi Baithak the words if you translate in English Gaddhi means throne and Baithak means meeting room. dis Gaddhi Baithak was Built by the Jung Bahadur Rana in (1846-1951) when he was Prime Minister in Nepal. The model of Building is being influence of the British Style. But now dis Gaddhi Baithak is being under construction as it was highly effected by the Earthquake in 25th April 2015.

BHAGWATI TEMPLE

Bhagwati Temple was built by King Jagat Jaya Malla and initially had an image of God Narayan but was stole in 1766. The temple is located on the northwest corner of the Gadhhi Baithak which has triple storey wood carved building. Currently you will see some shop of Thangka, n Religious painting along its front.

GREAT BELL

The Great Bell was built by the Rana Bahadur Shah in 1797. You can see it on the left as you leave the main square. Basically the bell’s ring to get off from the evil spirits and only rung during the period of puja in the Degutaleju Temple.

KUMARI DEVI

Kumari Devi who lives in the Kumari Bahal is a young girl. Kumari Bahal is located just right behind the Kathmandu Durbar Square. The Nepali People treat Kumari as the Living God. The Kumari God is selected from the particular caste of Newari Bajracharye. Every Indra Jatra Festivel she will bring outside to circle all street of Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Seto Bhairav

Seto Bhairav is the twelve feet metal plated head of White Bhairav. It is always hidden behind the wooden grill small cozy room near to the way of main gate in Hanuman Dhoka. Just Opposite of it you can also see two big nepali style drum to convey any message in ancient time. dis huge face of seto Bhairav is open during indra jatra. On dis festivel from the mounth of dis big face their is the pipe to provide local wind and it is believe that if any people can drinks Nepal wind pour from that Seto Bhairave mouth will get good health.

Kal Bhairav

Just infront of the Seto Bhairav. their is the 10 feet high big statue in the wall Portrayed Kal Bhairav. Nepali people believe that the God Kal Bhairav is very aggressive god. In every Saturday People is crowded worshiping Kal Bhairav Believing to get Properity and success in life.
